Researchers at the Department of Renewable Energy Engineering at the West Pomeranian University of Technology are producing a pellet with previously unheard-of properties and generating energy from biomass – i.e. ecologically safe for the environment.
The latest acquisition of the Szczecin researchers is a biomass pellet machine. Resembling a miniature locomotive, the apparatus produces pellets from sawdust, which are then fed into a boiler, where they are burned and heat is generated.
The machine makes it possible to mechanically convert biomass into solid biofuel from materials of varying hardness, including vegetable waste (hay, straw, sunflower hulls), energy crops (willow, fibre hemp, spit), waste from the wood sector (sawdust) or municipal waste (branches, shrubs). This is how a pellet with completely new and unprecedented properties is produced.
