Researchers from the chemical faculty of the Gdańsk University of Technology are conducting intensive research on the implementation of new, effective steroid sulfatase inhibitors with potential application in the treatment of hormone-dependent cancers.
The results of research on antitumor activity in laboratory conditions and animal tests have shown that the steroid sulfatase inhibitors obtained in the chemical department can significantly reduce the level of hormones in the blood of animals and the rate of tumor growth.
The research project received funding within the TANGO 4 competition, announced by the National Center for Research and Development. Researchers rely on the results obtained during the implementation of the PRELUDIUM grant and focus on research aimed at checking whether the compounds obtained will be able to enter common use in the form of a medicine.
