Work on a helicopter automatic flight control system is being carried out at the Department of Power and Aeronautical Engineering, Warsaw University of Technology (PW).
In comparison to the classical configuration of the helicopter (main rotor and tail rotor), the system includes an additional push propeller, located at the end of the tail boom. The assumption behind this configuration is that the helicopter will achieve a higher speed in progressive flight. “Our team is trying to develop effective automatic control solutions to achieve high cruising speeds while maintaining flight safety”, explains Dr Sebastian Topczewski from the Warsaw University of Technology.
Researchers from the Warsaw University of Technology – Eng. Sara Waśniewska, and Eng. Tomasz Cioć, students of aeronautics and space science, specialising in automation and aerospace systems, together with Dr Eng. Sebastian Topczewski, from the Warsaw University of Technology, are trying to develop effective automatic control solutions to achieve high cruising speeds while maintaining flight safety.
