Results of the research of Polish and German scientists published in the prestigious journal “Optica”

Scientists of the Polish-German research team of the Wrocław University of Science and Technology and German universities from Augsburg, Münster and Munich managed to mix nanoscale sound waves with light quanta. The results of their research have been published in the prestigious journal “Optica”.

Light and sound waves form the basis of modern communication technologies. Light is used to transmit data in the global fiber optic network, devices using sound waves are used in wireless communication between routers, tablets or smartphones.

These technologies now need to be adapted to the coming age of quantum communication. Such possibilities are provided by so-called hybrid quantum technologies that combine light and sound. They combine different quantum systems, using the unique advantages of each of them, and at the same time overcoming their limitations.
