The Scientific Information Center and the Academic Library in Katowice (CINBA) invites participants on January 17 to lecture of Dr. Aneta Drabek, who will talk on the problem of “predatory” magazines and publications, and will help recognize unfair practices used by the so-called predators.

Scientists are increasingly the victim of fraud made by the part of predatory publishers, whose main purpose is extortion of texts and money for publishing them.

Such magazines are usually not subject to either the publishing or the review process. Their activities focus primarily on convincing potential authors to publish them in their publishing house and collecting the fee.

CINBA is a shared library of two Katowice colleges: the University of Economics and the University of Silesia.
