Scientist from the University of Wrocław receives the Viadrina Preis

Prof. Krzysztof Ruchniewicz, director of the Willy Brandt Centre for German and European Studies at Wrocław University, has received the prestigious Viadrina Preis awarded by the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder).

The prize has been awarded since 1999 to outstanding personalities and significant initiatives from all areas of social life for their commitment to understanding, cooperation and reconciliation between Poland and Germany. It symbolises understanding between nations, peace and freedom in the common European home – values that underpin the Viadrina European University, founded in 1991. Since this year, the Viadrina Prize Foundation’s Board of Trustees has decided on the selection oflaureates.

Prof. Ruchniewicz specialises in German history and German-Polish relations in the 20th century, the history of European integration, historical politics and the culture of remembrance, the history of Poles in Germany and international textbook research.
