Scientist of the Adam Mickiewicz University studing the responses of American forests to climate change

08.03.2021

Dr Michał Bogdziewicz, University of Adam Mickiewicz in Poznań is the co-author of the research of the American Duke University. Scientists investigated the responses of American forests to climate change. The results of their work have been published in Nature Communications.

According to the researcher, younger, smaller trees, which cover most of the eastern forests of North America, have increased seed production due to climate change, but the older, larger trees that dominate the forests of the American West have suffered.

The biogeographic breakdown was described in new research for the first time. It will radically change the composition and structure of 21st century North American forests. Knowing about the different responses of forests to climate change and understanding its origins will help scientists more accurately predict future changes in North American forests and develop conservation and management strategies to mitigate these changes.
