Scientist of the Gdańsk University of Technology receives Gdańsk Nobel Prize

Prof. Eng. Jacek Tejchman, Gdańsk University of Technology was awarded the Scientific Award of the City of Gdańsk. The prize, known as the Gdańsk Nobel Prize, was awarded to the professor for his outstanding scientific achievements in the field of natural and exact sciences.

The main research interests of the laureate include civil engineering, eco-construction and material engineering. Prof. Tejchman conducts research on engineering structures (concrete, reinforced concrete, composite and steel), soil and rock mechanics, fracture mechanics and mechanics of loose materials.

The award jury appreciated his outstanding achievements in modeling damage in engineering materials based on the discrete element method and the finite element method. The laureate is also the author of an effective method of reducing dynamic effects in silos, patented in 1996 together with Dupont. The patent was sold to Zeppelin – the largest German silo company.
