Dr Maciej Grzybek of the Department of Tropical Parasitology, Institute of Maritime and Tropical Medicine, Medical University of Gdańsk, was appointed to the expert group of the World Health Organization (WHO) on neglected tropical diseases (NTD). Dr Grzybek is the only Pole in the international group.
The aim of the group is to work on the project Working towards eliminating the remediable obstacles which currently prevent populations accessing the NTD interventions and other health and social outcomes described in the WHO NTD Roadmap 2021-2030. The WHO action plan for the coming years is setting out global goals and milestones necessary to control and eliminate 20 NTD disease entities.
The task of the group is to develop guidelines for global policies and strategies. Its members analyze the actions taken by WHO, set priorities for action and advise on the mobilization of technical resources.
