Dr Eng. Marcin Chciuk from the Department of Computer Science and Production Automation of the University of Zielona Góra is a co-author of a solution that facilitates breathing in adapted diving masks, which can be used by physicians, nurses and rescuers during the pandemic.
Dr Chciuk, together with Tomasz Drapiewski – president of the Makerspace Foundation developed a device weighing approx. 0.5 kg, with working time approx. 2 hours enabling regulation of air flow. This solution provides the flow of filtered air and creates an overpressure in the mask, which forces the flow of uncontaminated air outside the mask.
The prototype was assessed by the doctors for testing and received positive feedback. Therefore, the creators began work on producing more masks. The acquired sponsor financed the purchase of parts and materials for the production of the first batch of 40 prototype items, which has already been handed pro bono to rescuers of the Zielona Góra ambulance service.
