Scientists from the Faculty of Materials Science and Physics of the Krakow University of Technology (PK) won the Gold Medal at the International Warsaw Invention Show IWIS. They were awarded for the solution “Bioactive composite coatings for biomedical application” developing multifunctional, biocompatible and bioactive composite coatings for various biomedical applications.
The invention appreciated at the Warsaw Invention Show IWIS is polymer-ceramic composite coating containing bioactive calcium phosphates, collagen and glutathione. The proposed solution describes innovative multifunctional materials that meet the requirements of modern biomaterials for implantology and dentistry.
-Our solution can be applied in dentistry or implantology for the production of various types of implants, also subject to dynamic loads. In addition, it can support the regenerative processes of tissues and, at the same time, prevent the occurrence of postoperative infections related to implant implantation procedures – says Prof. Agnieszka Sobczak-Kupiec from the Faculty of Materials Science and Physics.
