The European Union has identified the COURAGEOUS project involving the Military University of Technology (WAT) in Warsaw as a key pillar of its policy to protect against uncooperative unmanned aircraft systems. Researchers from the WAT’s Institute of Optoelectronics will show how to choose the best anti-drone technology.
The WAT Institute of Optoelectronics has been participating for two years in the COURAGEOUS project funded by the European Union’s Internal Security Fund. The leader of the consortium is the Belgian Royal Military Academy.
Experts are working on a standardised methodology for testing anti-drone systems. They are basing it on numerous scenarios of cases of illegal drone use extracted from police data from many countries. In doing so, they take into account the security of critical infrastructure, including airports and borders, as well as drug smuggling and human trafficking. The results of the project will be available for law enforcement and other public use.
