Scientists from the University of Lodz to prepare a monograph on Lodz

06.08.2021

Hanna Zdanowska, mayor of the city of Łódź, Prof. Elżbieta Żądzińska, Rector of the University of Łódź (UŁ), as well as the authorities of partner institutions signed a letter of intent on the development of a five-volume publication presenting the history of Łódź. The monograph would be published in 2023 – for the city’s 600th birthday.

The publication will be prepared by over 100 authors, mostly scientists from the Faculty of Philosophy and History of the University of Lodz (historians, archaeologists, ethnologists and anthropologists of culture, art historians). Several linguists and literary scholars from the Faculty of Philology of the University of Lodz will also participate in the work.

-Łódź, as one of the few large Polish cities, has been not yet fully described in the form of a several-volume monograph. We have ambitions to create a work that will be complete, modern, richly illustrated and interesting for the average reader – said Prof. Jarosław Kita, a historian from the University of Lodz and the chairman of the editorial committee.
