Scientists from the University of Silesia analyzing the thermographic measurements in the fight against the spread of the coronavirus

Scientists from the University of Silesia are analyzing the influence of atmospheric conditions on the results of non-contact temperature measurements of people entering public buildings. It allows them to identify people with increased body temperature, which may indicate COVID-19 infection. The research results are intended to support the health service in the fight against the pandemic.

The scientists, carrying out research co-financed by the National Center for Research and Development, will use temperature sensors and thermal imaging cameras as well as meteorological stations providing information on air humidity, temperature and wind speed, which significantly affect the temperature of the body surface.

Scientists want to analyze the relationship between body temperature and weather conditions at a specific time of the day or year. On this basis, a temperature threshold will be established, above which a person is considered to have an elevated temperature, which may indicate an infection, i.e. potentially being a carrier of the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
