Researchers from the Department of Consultative Psychiatry and Neurobiological Research at the Department of Psychiatry at the Medical University of Wroclaw (UMW) will investigate how psychosocial stress affects the development of full-blown psychotic disorders. They obtained a grant for a research project from the National Science Center.
The research will be carried out by the Medical University of Wrocław, the Institute of Psychology and the Ludwik Hirszfeld Institute of Immunology and Experimental Therapy, the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Pomeranian Medical University in Szczecin.
– Psychotic-like experiences are highly prevalent and occur in 5-8% of general population, being a risk factor for the development of full-blown psychotic disorders, mainly related to the schizophrenia spectrum. One of the most important factors of their occurrence is psychosocial stress, which is a highly subjective feeling – says Prof. Błażej Misiak from UMW.
