Specialists from the Department of Paediatrics and Infectious Diseases of the University Teaching Hospital of the Medical University of Wroclaw are conducting extensive research on PIMS (Pediatric Inflammatory Multisystem Syndrome), a multi-system inflammatory syndrome that occurs in children after SARS-CoV-2 infection.
Wrocław scientists, in cooperation with the Medical University of Warsaw and the University of Warsaw are implementing the MOIS-CoR (Multiorgan Inflammatory Syndrome COVID-19 Related) project. Its aim is to systematize knowledge about PIMS and develop guidelines for medical management of patients.
PIMS is developed as a result of immunological disorders occurring in some children after (even asymptomatic) infection with SARS-CoV-2. There are many symptoms, but the most common are: high fever, digestive system ailments (such as stomach pain), rash, conjunctivitis, and sometimes a headache.
