Scientists of the Institute of Biomedical Engineering of the University of Silesia are developing new solutions in the field of biomedical engineering. Scientists have developed a rehabilitation oscillating vest and a breathing monitor to prevent Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.

The vest is used to clear the respiratory tract. Eight built-in vibration motors cause vibrations strong enough that the patients reflexively cough up the secretions from the lungs. The device was created primarily for the physiotherapy of people struggling with diseases, as a result of which secretions accumulate in the respiratory tract – cystic fibrosis and bronchial asthma.

Scientists of the University of Silesia from the team of Dr Paweł Janik have also designed a breathing monitor to prevent sudden infant death syndrome. The device is controlling the frequency and strength of breathing, pulse and changes in the position of the child’s body.
