Scientists of the University of Silesia patent anti-cancer invention

07.10.2020

Scientists of the University of Silesia in Katowice have developed new triapine derivatives and a method of their preparation. These compounds have interesting anti-cancer properties, because they can block a key stage in DNA synthesis and thus stop the replication of cancer cells.

Chemists appropriately modified the structure of triapine to obtain compounds that can be used especially in the treatment of colon cancer. The solution has been already patented.

The authors of the invention are chemists of the faculty of exact and technical sciences at the University of Silesia in Katowice: Prof. Eng. Jarosław Polański, Dr Marta Rejmund, Dr Eng. Kamila Gajcy, Dr Monika Pyrkosz-Bulska, Dr Anna Mrozek-Wilczkiewicz, Dr Katarzyna Malarz and Prof. Robert Musioł.
