16.12.2020

The National Center for Research and Development (NCBR) allocated PLN 6.6 million in funding for the Information Refinement Center, a spin-off company of the University of Warsaw (UW), for the implementation of the IKONA project. The system developed as part of their project will detect disinformation actions and act as a fake news detector in source materials, including information posted on social media, websites and available repositories.

The Information Refining Center is headed by Prof. Włodzimierz Gogołek and Prof. Wiesław Cetera, researchers of the Faculty of Journalism, Information and Book Studies of the University of Warsaw. Their project “Identification, CoLectioning and evaluation of hostile disinformation operations in cyberspace, conducted on the basis of ICT tools” (IKONA) is related to technologies and procedures in the field of protection against information threats in the virtual space.

The developed system will be a detector of fake news in source materials in Polish, English or in another language enabling its automatic translation into Polish or English.
