The Department of Cryogenics and Aeronautical Engineering of the Wrocław University of Science and Technology has launched works on a joint project of scientists from the mechanical and energy faculty and the Remontowa LNG Systems. They will result in new constructions of cryogenic tanks designed for storing liquid natural gas (LNG) in means of transport.
Scientists are developing three types of tanks: for cars, for maritime vessels and trains. Each of them will have a different construction, the largest tank for ships will have about 100 cubic meters, the smallest tank for cars – about 1 cubic meter.
They will be distinguished from the installations currently used on the market by the value of holding time. If the tank is out of service, after some time the gas begins to escape. Usually it takes about 15 days, the solutions of Wrocław scientists will extend this period from several days to even infinity.
