Scientists of University of Silesia develop the patent for the method of obtaining naphthalene diimide derivatives

06.03.2020

Researchers from the University of Silesia have developed a new way of obtaining naphthalene diimide derivatives with special electronic and optical properties. The method of synthesis of these compounds has been optimized and the solution has received the patent.

The developed method of obtaining naphthalene diimides is simpler and more efficient, because it allows to skip several cost and time consuming stages from the previously known methods of producing symmetrical 2,6-disubstituted 1,4,5,8-naphthalene diimides.

Naphthalene diimide derivatives are an important group of compounds with significant physicochemical properties. They can be used in fluorescence spectroscopy, in organic electronics (e.g. in organic photovoltaic cells and / or organic light emitting diodes), as well as in the preparation of supramolecular compounds and studies of their interaction with DNA and RNA nucleic acids.
