Researchers from the University of Lodz (UŁ) in a consortium with the Jagiellonian University in Krakow and the Pomeranian Medical University in Szczecin are taking part in the project, thanks to which it will soon be possible to predict the risk of premature and late aging.

The project is financed by the National Center for Research and Development.

Prof. Aneta Sitek from the Department of Anthropology, University of Lodz, who supervises researches at the University of Lodz explained, that scientists want to study 300 people who are over 30 years old. So far 50 people have applied, there are still 250 vacancies.

The aim of the research is to find genetic and epigenetic markers (changes in the genome independent of changes in the DNA sequence). This will allow scientists to predict the risk of premature aging, including the appearance of early baldness, wrinkles as well as late aging.

The examination lasts 30-40 minutes and involves taking blood and a swab from the oral mucosa, as well as taking pictures and scans of the face and head.
