The Silesian Water Centre (ŚCW) of the University of Silesia has been awarded the medal of the Polish Chamber of Ecology for its contribution to sustainable development for 2022. The award was presented during the conference ‘Waste management in the dimension of thermal transformation and challenges in the area of municipal waste’. The medal was received by Dr Damian Absalon, Professor of the university, deputy director of the Centre.

The ŚCW deals with the assessment of water quality, making bathymetric measurements of water bodies and conducting their monitoring, as well as developing programmes for the reclamation of contaminated areas. In recent years, the centre has participated in research rafting on the Vistula and Oder.

Medals of the Polish Chamber of Ecology may be awarded to individuals, state institutions, local government units, entrepreneurs and social and professional organisations that contribute to the improvement of the environment.
