Researchers from the Łukasiewicz – Łódź Institute of Technology ( ŁIT) are analysing data collected by smart beehives. Designed by the Polish company Intelligent Hives, the system monitors temperature, humidity, sound frequencies, image and location of the hive, thanks to appropriate sensors placed in the hives. The devices support beekeepers in apiary management by providing an easy-to-use hive monitoring system.
Łukasiewicz – ŁIT also proposed a solution to use ecological insulation material to equip the hives in smart apiaries, which is environmentally and human health friendly. At the same time, it ensures the reduction of biomass waste in the form of feathers, lingering and polluting the environment.
Setting up a network of smart apiaries in both urban and rural areas will increase public awareness of the role and importance of bees in nature.
The primary aim of the project’s activities is to increase the quality of honey, which will allow processed sugars to be replaced in the diets of children and young people.
