The Academic Center for Optometrists’ Education, Faculty of Physics, University of Warsaw, at Pasteur Street 7 in Warsaw has been providing the campaign “Eyesight examination and glasses for Ukraine” for several weeks.

More than thirty patients were examined in the first two weeks.

“It happens that people fleeing the war in Ukraine reach Poland without glasses. They forgot to take them or they got damaged during the long journey. Some of the people who come to Poland do not have up-to-date tests or they were performed inaccurately”, explains Dr Jacek Pniewski, the head of the European Studies of Ocular Optics and Optometry (ESOOiO) and Optometry, which coordinates the activities of volunteers.

ESOOiO is an independent study program at the Faculty of Physics of the University of Warsaw. It is a four-year BA course with a practical profile and, at the same time, the first and unique bachelor’s studies in Poland, designed in accordance with the standards of the European Council of Optometry and Optics. Its completion assures the acquisition of full qualifications of both eyeglass optics and optometrists.
