Students of the AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków designed and constructed a scissor footbridge. The foldable structure can be used as a movable crossing over obstacles and function as a temporary bridge.
The footbridge created by students of the AGH Faculty of Mining and Geoengineering is 7 m long and about 2 m wide and is able to withstand a weight of up to 500 kg. It takes 20 seconds to unfold the mechanism that weighs almost a ton.
The model consists of 6 wooden segments and 24 steel arms moved by means of two hydraulic cylinders. It is also possible to increase the number of elements constituting the supporting structure of the footbridge to tailor it better to the actual needs.
