Students of the Wrocław University of Science and Technology from the Aerospace Science Club of Wrocław University of Science and Technology took second place in the international competition of space probes CanSat Competition United States. In a competition organized by the American Astronautical Society and NASA, student teams are building space probes.
In the final in Virginia, the competition task was a mission resembling landing on Mars to a much smaller extent. Student probes are parachuted at an altitude of 750 meters. During descent, they are to drop one parachute and then release another one 400 m over the Earth. Then they are to extend the line with a scientific charge to 300 m, terminate the radio transmission and sound the signal after touchdown.
The teams are also assessed in the tests carried out before the launch of the probes and during the final presentation. Students from the Aerospace club of Wroclaw University of Science and Technology are taking part in the competition for the third time. Each time they qualified for the finals, and this year’s result is their greatest success.
