Students of the Wrocław University of Technology prepared about 30 designs of running wheelchairs for disabled children as part of an action organized with the Medical University of Wroclaw.
– We thought it would be a fantastic thing to create a special stroller for disabled children. We were not able to do it ourselves, so I started working with scientists from the Wrocław University of Technology and I found the volunteers easy to help – says Dr Tomasz Zatoński from the Medical University, one of the initiators of the competition.
The stroller for children with disabilities must be safe and comfortable, protect the spine and provide stability during turns and on uneven terrain. The structure should also be resistant and light, protected against wind and rain, easy to assemble, and be equipped with a mechatronic diagnostic system – covering overloads and vibration, which a disabled athlete is subjected to while running.
