Success of employees of the Department of Molecular Microbiology at the University of Wroclaw

Employees of the Department of Molecular Microbiology of the Faculty of Biotechnology of the University of Wroclaw received Prof. Kazimierz Bassalik prize for the best Polish microbiological work. The competition is organized by the Molecular Biology Committee of the Cells of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

The main prize was received by Dr Joanna Hołówka, Dr Damian Trojanowski, Dr Katarzyna Ginda, Dr Bartosz Wojtaś, Bartłomiej Gielniewski, Prof. Dagmara Jakimowicz and Prof. Jolanta Zakrzewska-Czerwińska for the work “HupB is a bacterial nucleoid-associated protein with an indispensable eukaryotic-like tail”.

One of two equally important awards was received by Dr. Agnieszka Strzałka, Dr. Marcin Szafran, Prof. Terence Strick and Prof. Dagmara Jakimowicz, for the work: “C-terminal lysine repeats in Streptomyces topoisomerase I stabilize the enzyme-DNA complex and confer high enzyme processivity”.
