The project “Active protection of Batrachia habitats and clearing the ecological corridor of the Drawa river basin in Poland”, implemented by the Regional Directorate for Environmental Protection in Szczecin in cooperation with employees and students of the Department of Hydrobiology of the University of Szczecin, won the Fish Passage 2020 competition.

The project’s goals include restoring the flotation of the Drawa river beds in places of barriers that prevent fish and lampreys from migrating throughout the catchment area – also in the Drawieński National Park. In addition, it also envisages hydrotechnical improvements, creation of spawning grounds in riverbeds, construction of an anti-erosion dam in the Drawa valley and restoration of the Groenlandia densa population.

The project and the investments will contribute to a significant improvement of the ecological situation in the Drawa valley, above all it will allow to revive the salmon population, clear the river and preserve its natural values, which are particularly important for the development of tourism.
