Scientists of the faculty of fine arts at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń will carry out the project “Carpentry art and the development of secular construction in the Old and New Town of Toruń from the Middle Ages to the end of the 18th century in the light of interdisciplinary research on roof trusses”. The research is financed by the OPUS competition of the National Science Center.

The research will be carried out in many ways. The first stage is a historical study, consisting of meticulous searches of sources in the State Archives in Toruń and documentation in the offices for the protection of monuments. Next, an initial inventory of the field resource will be carried out to select the most important structures for drawing presentation.

Detailed architectural studies will be performed on the prepared models, including the analysis of the building material and its processing, the system of carpentry assembly marks as well as signs and traces of transport and unbinding and setting the structure.
