Torun’s project of a visually controlled communicator awarded in the competition of the Sektor 3.0 Foundation

A team of scientists from the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń and therapists from the “Light” Foundation won the first prize in the Sektor 3.0 Foundation competition co-organized by Google and Orange. The competition concerns the #TechForGood sphere, i.e. the use of the latest technology achievements in the service of society.

The jury distinguished Dr. Bibianna Bałaj from the Faculty of Humanities and Dr hab. Jacek Matulewski from the Faculty of Physics, Astronomy and Applied Computer Science, and Anna Betlejewska and Monika Kwilińska from the “Light” foundation under the direction of Anna Grajpel-Dybowska – working on a visually controlled communicator.

The solution will allow patients after accidents, strokes or advanced stage of neurodegenerative diseases, who can control only eye movements, communicate with families and friends via text messages or short e-mails.
