The Faculty of Polish Studies at the Jagiellonian University (UJ) in Krakow announces two competitions inspired by the person and work of Nobel Prize winner Wisława Szymborska. The ‘Imitating Szymborska’ poem competition and the ‘Memes about Szymborska’ competition using an image of the poet. Both competitions are open for entries until 30 May 2023.

The ‘Imitating Szymborska’ competition is addressed to students at all higher education institutions in Krakow, public and non-public. The participants’ task is to write a poetic work that is a paraphrase, parody, persiflage or other kind of imitation of one of the 10 poems by Wisława Szymborska proposed by the organiser.

The “Memes about Szymborska” competition is addressed to students in all secondary schools in Krakow, public and non-public, and secondary schools throughout Poland named after Wisława Szymborska. Secondary school students who apply to take part in the competition are required to create a graphic work – a meme – based on one of the five proposed photographs of Wisława Szymborska.
