UN to hold “International Day of Women and Girls in Science”

The United Nations event “International Day of Women and Girls in Science” will be held for the ninth time. Poland is among a small group of seven UN member states coordinating this year’s celebrations, which will take place on 8-9 February 2024. 

The celebration of the ‘International Day of Women and Girls in Science’ has been organised by the UN since 2016. This year’s theme is the fight against poverty, hunger, climate change and peace and security.

The event, as in previous years, will be held at UN Headquarters in New York and is coordinated by the Royal Academy of Science International Trust (RASIT) together with a group of UN member states. This year these will include: Poland, Costa Rica, the Philippines, Lebanon, Rwanda, Portugal and Malta.

Poland, together with Lebanon, will moderate a panel on women’s participation in peace and security issues, entitled ‘Women in Science Leadership for Peace and Security’. Women in Science Leadership for Peace and Security. On behalf of Poland, the panel will be moderated by Krzysztof Szczerski, Ambassador, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Poland to the United Nations in New York.

Minister for Equality Katarzyna Kotula will speak on the high-level panel with Presidents, Prime Ministers and Ministers.
