A UNESCO Chair for Sustainable Social Development has been launched at the University of Szczecin. The university joined the prestigious group of institutions that form a network of over 850 chairs, in which researchers address the most important problems of the contemporary world.
The new chair will develop research on inclusive social development (research on civic competences, design of sustainable cities), socially responsible economy, rights for minorities (comparative research on legal protection of disadvantaged groups and groups at risk of exclusion) and social transformations.
The international programme of the UNESCO Chairs Network has been operating since 1992 and emphasises the promotion of innovation in research. The Chairs’ roles include advising on the development of educational, scientific and cultural policies, building bridges between universities, policy makers and society, and promoting cultural diversity.
