University of Gdańsk to develop documentation for the construction of the port in Gdynia

27.08.2018

The University of Gdańsk will develop environmental documentation for the construction of the Outer Port in Gdynia. The agreement on this matter was signed by the rector of the university, Prof. Jerzy Gwizdała and the president of the Gdynia Maritime Port Authority – Adam Meller.

Researchers at the Gdańsk University will conduct research for the next 12 months. They are to answer the question about the significant negative impact of the construction of the Outer Port on Natura 2000 areas. The scope of analyzes will include inventory of avifauna (birds) staying in the Natura 2000 area of the Puck Bay, ichthyofauna (fish) and benthic organisms living on the bottom of the reservoir.

– The future of Gdynia is connected with a deepwater container terminal dealing with the largest vessels that are able to reach the Port of Gdynia. Assuming that around 700-800 people will work in the terminal, it will generate over a dozen thousand jobs in the entire country – announces Adam Meller.
