University of Physical Education in Poznań studying the effect of cold on reducing insulin resistance

24.04.2020

Professor Ewa Ziemann and Dr Giovanni Lombardi, Prof. of the University of Physical Education in Poznań from the Department of Athletics and Motor Preparation of the Poznań University are conducting research on the use of cryotherapy in supporting stimulation of insulin sensitivity.

Studies will concern the effects of cryotherapy on insulin sensitivity in the group of overweight people. The study group consists of 70 people aged 25 to 62 with visceral obesity. The results indicate the possibility of using this physical method as a support in reducing the effects of insulin resistance.

At the current stage of research, it seems that the most effective procedure is to combine physical effort and cold. However, interestingly, this effect does not occur in all people, but only in part of the society. It is associated with the secretion of proteins released from both skeletal muscle and fat.
