The University of Rzeszów (UR) received funding in the amount of PLN 9,860,039 for the implementation of the project “Cytisine in the treatment of electronic cigarette addiction: a randomized placebo-controlled study” and thus it won first place in the competition announced by the Medical Research Agency for non-commercial clinical trials in psychiatry and neurology.
Dependence on electronic cigarettes quickly became one of the greatest challenges of medicine. The percentage of electronic cigarette users among young Poles is already higher than the percentage of traditional cigarette smokers.
If the study is successful, its results will be the world’s first scientific evidence basis allowing to register the first drug to help people addicted to electronic cigarettes.
The project will be implemented by the Research Team from the Department of Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology of the Institute of Medical Sciences. The project manager is Prof. Piotr Tutka.
