University of Silesia develops a new method of producing oxide layers on aluminum

17.04.2018

Researchers from the University of Silesia developed a method for the production of oxide layers enriched with nanolubricant on aluminum or alloys of this metal. The invention is applicable to the production of protective layers of machine parts, so that their operating costs can be reduced.

Aluminum and alloys of this metal are relatively light materials. They are often used in the design of cylinders and compressors or engine pistons. However, they are characterized by limited hardness and easy deformation. To improve their properties, scientists are developing different layers for sliding associations – including oxide layers enriched with nanolubricants, thanks to which the hardness and corrosion resistance of materials can be increased.

The authors of this already patented invention are Dr. Joanna Korzekwa and Dr Władysław Skoneczny from the Faculty of Computer Science and Materials Science, University of Silesia.
