The Publishing House of University of Silesia (Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Śląskiego) was awarded in the competition for the best academic book “Academia 2018” in the field of social sciences and humanities for the publication “S as Silesia – Superheroes in Silesia” by Marek Głowacki.

The awarded book is a collection of illustrations and texts that were created as part of the artistic project “S as Silesia – Superheroes in Silesia”. The publication contains more than thirty drawings created in the cartoon convention using traditional and digital techniques. Drawn characters were inspired by biographies of real inhabitants of Silesia, who approached the ideal of the cartoon superheroes.

The awards were presented during the Academic and Scientific Book Fair organized as part of the 9th Warsaw Book Fair. Dr Marek Głowacki is an adjunct at the drawing institute of the Art Institute at the University of Silesia in Cieszyn.
