University of Warsaw researchers anticipate election results more accurately than polling centers

Researchers from the Faculty of Journalism, Information and Bibliology of the University of Warsaw have been researching Big Data for a few years and they are convinced that their analyzes of changing electoral preferences are more accurate than polling surveys.

BigData’s research team is led by Professor Włodzimierz Gogołek. During the last presidential election campaign, the team carried out a project on political preferences.

The results turned out to be much more accurate than the outcomes of pre-election surveys – says Dr Eng Wiesław Cetera from the Department of Information Technology of Media of the Warsaw university in an interview for the onet.pl portal . The basis of research and source of knowledge were social networking sites and all types of forums on the Internet. Researchers searched for everything that Internet users wrote about the main candidates for the office of the President.

Then we combined it in the statistical process defined by the algorithm and compared it with earlier quotations. The result we obtained was almost identical to the result of the election – adds Dr. Cetera.
