University of Technology and Life Sciences in Bydgoszcz to launch international interdisciplinary project

11.12.2020

The project “Research on the intergenerational and multigenerational phenotypic and epigenetic effects of in ovo stimulation of a chicken embryo” will be supported by the National Science Center under the Opus competition. The research coordinator is Prof.. Eng. Marek Bednarczyk, University of Technology and Life Sciences in Bydgoszcz.

The primary aim of the project is to analyze whether epigenetic changes that were acquired in one generation, as a result of the effects of in ovo injection on embryonic development and long-term post-embryonic development, can be permanently inherited and propagated in future generations. Another goal is to investigate the effects of intergenerational and multigenerational inheritance on gastrointestinal health, immune system health, productivity, mortality and physiological characteristics.

In order to carry out the research, cooperation with the Universities of Life Sciences in Poznań and Wrocław, the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń and the Aarhus University in Denmark have been planned.
