University of Warsaw in Cyprus established a research station of the Center of Mediterranean Archeology

12.10.2021

The Center of Mediterranean Archeology of the University of Warsaw (CAŚ UW) will establish a research station in Paphos, Cyprus, where the Center has been conducting expeditions for over 50 years. It will be the third foreign research station of CAŚ UW.

The CAŚ UW expedition is the longest foreign archaeological research project in Cyprus. Archaeologists have been working in Nea Paphos, one of the ancient capitals of the island, since 1965. Their discoveries include mosaics and sculptural art, that made Nea Paphos a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

For over a decade, Nea Paphos has also hosted an expedition of the Jagiellonian University conducting research on the Agora, in the center of the city. Currently, both expeditions have been combined into a joint project of the Jagiellonian University, CAŚ UW and the Warsaw University of Technology.  Several Polish female researchers are also realizing their individual grant projects in Nea Paphos.
