Students from the Faculty of Physics at the University of Warsaw (UW) have won the gold medal in the University Physics Competition 2022.

The University Physics Competition is a team competition involving undergraduate students from all over the world. During the competition, teams prepare a scientific paper on one of two set topics. They have just 48 hours to solve a problem, run a simulation, write their paper and send it to the organisers. The competition was played in early November 2022 and the results were announced on 17 January.

The competition attracted 417 teams from research centres around the world, including 11 from the UW Department of Physics. In addition to the gold, UW students also won five silver and two bronze medals.

Warsaw University students are taking part in the UPC competition for the seventh consecutive year. Activities under the University Physics Competition are coordinated by Paweł Sidorczak, a physics student who has been organising the competition at the UW for four years.
