University of Warsaw researcher receives award for outstanding indologists

Professor Joanna Jurewicz of the Faculty of Oriental Studies at the University of Warsaw has been honoured with the Outstanding Indologist Award from the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR). The award is given to researchers who have made exceptional contributions to the development of knowledge about India.

The award ceremony was held at the Indian Embassy and the award was presented by Dr Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, President of the ICCR.

According to the UW, Prof. Joanna Jurewicz works on the history of the oldest Indian philosophy. She uses issues of cognitive linguistics in her cultural research, particularly in political, religious and philosophical discourse, as well as artistic and advertising creativity.

“Receiving the award is a great honour for me, especially as I have been recognised by an Indian institution. I have dedicated my entire life to the culture and philosophy of India and I am extremely pleased that my efforts have been recognised in this country”, said Prof. Jurewicz.
