The University of Warsaw (UW) Nomagic Warsaw MIMotaurs team joined the five teams from around the world that have been qualified for the finals of the prestigious robotics competition ‘The Mohamed Bin Zayed International Robotics Challenge’ (MBZIRC).

The grand final of the competition will take place in 2024 in the capital of the United Arab Emirates Abu Dhabi. The finalists were selected in a qualifying round with 50 teams from top universities and robotics companies from around the world.

In the ongoing competition, each team shortlisted for the finals must design, build and program a system of 20 drones to interact with each other and with a surface unit. The task to be carried out by the system is to search a designated water area in order to find predefined vessels and to pick up and transport various types of objects from them to land. The entire system must operate autonomously without human intervention. An additional complication is the lack of access to communications and satellite navigation.

The MIMotaurs team was established in 2019 at the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Mechanics at the UW to participate in international robotics competitions focused on addressing innovative challenges in the areas of intelligent drones and Artificial Intelligence.
