Dr Dominika Czerniak from the Department of Criminal Procedure at the University of Wrocław will carry out a project ‘Model of proceedings in cases of sexual offences’. She has won a grant for her research in the Miniatura 7 competition of the National Science Centre.

The project assumes the examination of criminal case files in order to see what practical evidential options are available to the courts, how often it is possible to use materials/information existing independently of the will of the accused or the wronged party, how evidence is assessed, and above all, what guides the courts in finding a given testimony or explanation credible.

A library search is also planned, together with a consultation trip to the Max Planck Institute in Freiburg im Breisgau (Germany) in order to learn about and discuss the results of the Institute’s research on sexual offences in the field of substantive criminal law and to conduct research relating to European standards.
