University of Wroclaw to hold a conference on the 100th anniversary of the Lower Silesian prison system

The University of Wrocław, the Lower Silesian Prison Service and the Wrocław branch of the Institute of National Remembrance are inviting participants on 25 and 26 April to the conference “From isolation to resocialization. 100 years of prison history in independent Poland. Selected aspects “.

The aim of the project is to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Prison Service, which since the first days of Poland’s independence has fulfilled an extremely important role in the state security system and propagation of knowledge about prisons, as well as exploring the history of the Prison Service and imprisonment.

A common base that brings together practitioners and scientists are issues related to the history of penitentiary and execution of sentences in various historical approaches. Speakers will present issues related to the founding of prisons, their architecture, as well as a number of aspects regarding the treatment and fate of prisoners during the war as well as the years of Stalinism.
