University of Wroclaw to hold a multimedia lecture “Glaciations and ice sheets”

21.02.2020

The University of Wroclaw is inviting participants on February 29 to a multimedia lecture by Artur Sobczyk “Glaciations and ice sheets”. The organizers will attempt to answer the questions: How are glaciations of hundreds of thousands of years old tested? What are physical laws subjected to glaciers? What forms of sculpture are typical for mountain glaciers and ice sheets?

Water accumulated in the form of glacial ice within the Earth’s cryosphere is an important drinking water reservoir that is constantly changing in response to global climate oscillations.

Understanding the processes that determine the formation and evolution of glaciers is crucial to reconstruct the geological history of glaciated areas. The activity of glaciers leads to a significant change of the surface of the Earth, resulting in the formation of both accumulative and erosive forms. In conjunction with significant climate changes, the glaciation period is increasing the development of forms and processes typical of the periglacial zone.
