Jagoda Kurowiak, an employee of the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Zielona Góra, won a competition run by the Polish Society of Biomechanics and was honoured with the prestigious Prof. A. Morecki and Prof. K. Fidelus Award for Young Scientists.
The basis for the award was a presentation entitled ‘Analysis of material and mechanical properties of stents to increase the effectiveness of urethral stenosis treatment’, in which the laureate presented the results of research conducted as part of her doctoral thesis.
The competition’s patrons, Prof Adam Morecki and Prof Kazimierz Fidelus, are regarded as pioneers in the development of biomechanics not only in Poland. These two eminent scholars, representing technical and natural sciences, began working together in the 1950s, setting new directions for years of research at the interface between these fields of science. They also created their own scientific schools, educating and promoting young biomechanists.
